The joint effort has culminated in the inauguration of two new Owndays stores in Sydney, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s expansion initiatives.

The newly unveiled stores are at Westfield Hurstville, which commenced operations in May 2024, and Westfield Burwood, opened its doors in June 2024.

These additions complement the brand’s earlier establishments in Australia, with the pioneering store at Westfield Chatswood debuting in 2015, followed by the Sydney City outlet in May 2016.

Plans are already underway to increase Owndays’ presence throughout Australia, reflecting a strategic trajectory towards nationwide coverage.

The collaboration between Bluebell Group and Owndays began in the Hong Kong market in 2016. Presently, the Bluebell Group oversees the brand’s operations in 18 stores across the vibrant city, a testament to the efficacy of their joint endeavors in the region.

Nelly Ngadiman, Bluebell Group’s managing director of Southeast Asia and Australia, expressed enthusiasm about the extension of the partnership to Australia: “Thanks to the tremendous development of our joint venture with Owndays in Hong Kong, we are pleased to extend our partnership to the Australian market and proud to have launched two new stores this year. We look forward to reshaping the landscape of eyewear retail in Australia, through the brand’s unique eyewear offer and service, which we are both committed to delivering,” said Nelly Ngadiman, Managing Director of Southeast Asia and Australia.

Founded in Tokyo in 1989, Owndays has emerged as a leading optical retail enterprise in Japan. With Shuji Tanaka at the helm since 2008, Owndays has evolved into a retail powerhouse, retailing over 2.5 million pairs of glasses annually across more than 120 sales points in over 12 markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
