Luxury jeweller Fred opens first store in Malaysia

French luxury jewellery Fred has opened its first store in Malaysia, opting for the nation’s capital of Kuala Lumpur to make its debut.

Located on the ground floor of Seibu The Exchange TRX, the new Fred Kuala Lumpur store features an elegant and contemporary design with glass windows framed by a a metallic facade.

Inside, the store boasts gold and white hues, punctuated by blue display shelves, which hold wide range of products from the LVMH-owned brand including the new Pretty Woman Sunlight Message necklace, which features a hidden message that can only be seen by light.

Founded by Fred Samuel in Paris in 1936, the namesake Fred jewellery brand today has more than 50 stores worldwide and retail outlets in 30 countries. It was also the first jewellery brand acquired by LVMH in 1996.

In its most recent trading update, parent company LVMH Group reported a 3 percent organic sales uptick to EUR 20.7 billion in the first quarter, with Asia revenues falling by single digits, partially offset by gains across Japan.

The Parisian firm’s watches and jewellery segment was down 2 percent for the quarter ending March 31.

In Malaysia, revenue generated in the jewellery market is projected to reach USD 1.75 billion in 2024, according to Statista, experiencing an annual growth rate of 2.87 percent from 2024 to 2028.
