US’s GM joins green race into China

US-based automaker General Motors will introduce its battery-powered Chevrolet Volt car in China during the second half of 2011 as carmakers add more fuel-efficient models in China.

China, the world’s largest oil importing nation, is offering buyers of such vehicles subsidies as the country seeks to cut its dependence on the fuel.

"The volumes in China won’t be large," Kevin Wale, president of the US carmaker’s China business, said in Shanghai on Thursday.
