As co-chairman, Cheng’s remit is seen to include identifying growth opportunities and advancing Meta Media’s business expansion in Greater China and globally.

Thomas Shao, Meta Media’s founder, chairman, and CEO, describes Cheng as “a retail visionary and business leader who constantly reimagines how commerce, community, art and innovation can intersect and positively impact societies.”

The virtual platform Meta City, in partnership with Baidu, is also part of Meta Media’s portfolio.

“I believe we have an invaluable opportunity to create and build something important, both for China and internationally,” said Cheng.

Known for leading the USD 2.6 billion Victoria Dockside development in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, Cheng is also behind K11 ECOAST, a harbourfront commercial and retail complex opening in Shenzhen in 2024, and 11 Skies, a retail and entertainment destination at the Hong Kong International Airport. His ‘cultural retail’ brand K11 plans to operate 40 sites by 2025 and includes malls, office buildings, and luxury residences.

Cheng has been vocal on plans to revitalise and expand New World’s influence by infusing culture, innovation, and technology into the organisation.
