Michelin-trained Japanese chef Yusuke Kitade is Japanese cuisine with a fashionable contemporary twist at the cosy izakaya modelled after Tokyo’s legendary ‘after work’ social hubs – convenient for local residents of the ‘new town’, and a new destination-dining hotspot for adventurous aficionados to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown Hong Kong.

A protégé of Michelin-star chef Shohei Shimono of à nu retrouvez-vous Tokyo, he now revives his signature haute modern Japanese cuisine at the new destination-dining hotspot in Tseung Kwan O, presenting classic traditional izakaya fare using fresh seasonal ingredients, from hot and cold specialties to skewers.

Signature specialties on the menu include Wagyu Beef Pot Rice, with top-grade Miyazaki filet A4 and with a twist of Madeira sauce, and Chef Yusuke’s “reimagined” traditional izakaya cuisine with a Midas touch for specialties including Fatty Tuna Tartare with Avocado Paste, Marinated Egg Yolk, topped with caviar.

Tender and juicy, the artfully deboned Chicken Wing “Karaage” is seasoned with ginger and garlic, soy sauce and dashi; while Sliced Pork Roll Up with Soft Boiled Egg is also a novel upgrade of izakaya fare, requiring lengthy and delicate preparation to showcase chef skills and techniques.

Exquisite yet affordable set menus offer lunch and dinner options, with a la carte specialties from appetisers, tempura and skewers and more.

IZAKAYA BY K’s premium quality menu is co-curated by a fellow veteran of Michelin starred restaurants in Japan and à nu retrouvez-vous in Hong Kong, Sushi Chef Yuki Kai, specialising in fusing the beauty and simplicity of freshest ingredients of traditional Japanese cuisine with contemporary flair and exuberance.

In the spirit of izakaya, restaurant manager is also the Sake Sommelier, working with chefs on food pairing, and introducing diners to hidden gems from the Japan’s extensive sake world.

A fox statue at the entrance and playful interior décor of 150 fox figurines and paintings pay homage to design inspired by Japan’s 30,000 Inari shrines, where the fox ‘kitsune’ is revered as messenger of the mythological god and symbol of prosperity and success. The theme extends to the restaurant’s signature inari (“fox”) sushi.
