Organised by POPULAR, this year’s BookFest is held in partnership with Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan. For the first time, the two Singapore companies are bringing the experience of BookFest online to ensure that long-time supporters of the event are able to shop safely. Other safety measures and regulations will also be put in place at the physical stores, including limiting entry, implementing SafeEntry for contact tracing purposes, 1-metre social distancing queue lines, and more, all of which will help POPULAR create a safe shopping environment for everyone.

Speaking about the collaboration, Ms Mavis Huang, Chief Strategist for BookFest@Singapore, said, “The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives drastically, and as a homegrown brand, POPULAR commitment to serving the people’s needs meant that we also recognise the importance of safeguarding the community’s health and well- being while enabling them to shop safely.”

“The BookFest, with its 14-year history, has always had the strong support and following of many of our loyal members. With restrictions on travelling this year-end holiday, it becomes essential for us to come through for them in making BookFest a reality. This multi-channel approach allows us to bring the BookFest experience to the heartlands via all our stores, as well as online for the safety and convenience of everyone,” continued Ms Mavis Huang.

Tiger Wang, Head of Marketing, Shopee Singapore, said, “As a homegrown company, Shopee has always been committed to helping local businesses expand their online presence. In light of government restrictions during the pandemic, many brands’ offline sales have been negatively affected. During this difficult time, we are proud to be able to help brands drive sales by shifting traditionally offline experiences onto our platform with our integrated offerings. Bringing BookFest 2020 online is another example of us empowering local brands with a rich heritage to access the opportunities e-commerce
has to offer.”
