Located at Senayan City shopping mall in Central Jakarta, the 88-square-metre retail opened its doors on October 10, and is the biggest Nars store in Southeast Asia, according the Jakarta Post.

The brand’s modern facilities and opulent design are the result of a collaborative effort between the company’s founder and creative director, François Nars and New York design firm Baron & Baron, according to Nars in a press release.

Inside the store, a gloss white colour is used throughout, matched by high-gloss displays housing Nars complete cosmetics offerings for local Jakarta shoppers to buy.

The back wall pops of bold red, thanks to a giant photograph of an upclose red lipstick, with the NARS letters engraved into the lip, forming an eye-catching logo in-store.

Makeup consultation bay with directors’ chairs and giant mirrors line the other side of the store, with the store hosting a special area for face and lips.

The store also has an 18-square-metre semi-private area, featuring display tables and sofas for consultation, workshops and other Nars events.

A French makeup artist and photographer living New York, François Nars founded the namesake makeup company, where he remains creative director today, in 1994. Nars’ lipsticks were first stocked in luxury department sore Barneys New York.

Six years later, multinational group Shiseido snapped up Nars in 2000, joining the Japanese skincare company’s ever-growing skincare and beauty portfolio, which today includes Bare Minerals, Laura Mercier, and a host of Chinese labels.
