Will Daniel Lee replace Riccardo Tisci as Burberry’s Chief Creative Officer?

Burberry is exploring a new creative path and is in the process of interviewing designers who might replace Riccardo Tisci, its current Chief Creative Officer, whose contract expires early next year.

One of those designers is Daniel Lee, who abruptly left Kering-owned Bottega Veneta late last year, shortly after the brand’s spring 2022 runway show in Detroit.

A statement by Burberry in mid-July said that cooperation with Tisci was very productive, and declined to comment on whether or not the company would be looking for a replacement.

Taking over nearly five years, Tisci expanded Burberry’s offering and built up key categories such as footwear, outerwear and men’s tailoring.

In addition, he boosted Burberry’s social following and stoked international demand with special, limited-edition product drops with an emphasis on high-end leather accessories, particularly the Olympia, Lola and TB monogram bags.

Earlier this year, Burberry welcomed Jonathan Akeroyd as its new CEO. Following Burberry’s interim results in November, Akeroyd plans to outline his new strategy.

Akeroyd will likely look for a new creative leader to take over Burberry’s creative helm as part of his new roadmap. In recent months, the brand has been contacting a number of prominent British designers. Although no deal has been signed, Lee and Burberry are in advanced discussions. Despite speculation, Burberry declined to comment on this matter last Wednesday.
