Announced earlier this week, Tokyo will host a repeat showing of Chanel’s Métiers d’Art collection on June 1.

With the debut of its latest specialty craft-focused collection in Dakar, Senegal, the French luxury house made history as the first European luxury brand to stage a fashion show in sub-Saharan Africa.
As part of a three-day cultural program in the Senegalese capital, Chanel’s Métiers d’Art show 2022-2023 was attended by Pharrell Williams, Naomi Campbell, Whitney Peak, Nile Rodgers, Princess Caroline of Monaco, and her daughter Charlotte Casiraghi, which served as “the beginning of an ongoing exchange between the house and Senegal”.
By staging a repeated show in Tokyo, the house reaffirms its close relationship with Japan.
A traditional traveling show promoting Chanel’s in-house workshops made its first international stop in Japan in 2002 as a result of Chanel’s late creative director Karl Lagerfeld’s initiative.
In addition to Japan, a number of cities associated with Chanel’s history have also hosted Chanel’s Métiers d’Art shows, including Shanghai, Rome, Edinburgh, Scotland, Salzburg, Austria, and Havana, Cuba.

Furthermore, Chanel has held numerous exhibitions and events in Tokyo, including the Paris Cosmopolite exhibition, the Métiers d’Art 2017 collection, which was exhibited in the baroque Tsunamachi Mitsui Club and transformed into an evocative Ritz hotel, and Chanel’s 2014 Paris-Dallas Métiers d’Art, when the company built a Texas saloon-style set in a new building.
