Thailand’s Big C aims to triple stores

Big C Supercenter Plc (BIGC) expects to have 1,250 stores in all formats by 2016, more than triple this year’s number.Of those, 300 will be hypermarkets or Big C Markets, while the remaining 950 will be developed mostly under the Mini Big C format. Big C did not disclose an exact investment budget. It normally spends THB4-5 billion (USD136.4 million to USD170.5 million) each year to open new stores but has spent THB5.5 billion (USD187.6 million) this year. It now has 346 branches – 131 hypermarkets and Big C Markets, 125 Mini Big Cs and 90 Pure health, beauty and drug stores.
