South Korea uses shopping extravanganza to attract tourists

The South Korean government tourist organisation has roped in thousands of retailers into a huge promotion targeted at shoppers, particularly those from overseas. It is called the Korea Grand Sale and it starts on 10 January and lasts through to 28 February.

All the nation’s major department stores, duty-free shops and discount stores will participate as will thousands of name-brand specialty stores.

The whole-nation-on-sale concept is a super-sizing of the citywide sales that make Hong Kong and Singapore even more popular destinations at certain times of the year.
