Singapore exports surge in January

Singapore’s exports jumped in January for a third straight month as global demand for the city-state’s electronics and petrochemicals surged.

Exports excluding oil rose 21 percent from a year earlier to SGD12.1 billion (USD8.5 billion), according to Trade and Industry Ministry figures.

January’s trade figures suggest Singapore’s economy will grow sharply in the first quarter compared with a year earlier, when the country was mired in a deep recession.
