As the first children’s range under the new creative direction, the collection echoes the palette and elements from the ready-to-wear main line with an extra splash of whimsy.

Shanghai Tang’s iconic items are duly delivered in bite-sized renditions – qipaos, Tang shirts and Tang jackets, sporty polo shirts with mandarin collars, soft-as-candyfloss knitwear with contrast coloured silk lining. The colour palette ranges from vivid hues like apple red, yellow and fuchsia, to more subdued tones such as navy and moss green for practical day-to-day wear.

One of Shanghai Tang’s signature fabrics, silk jacquard is presented in dreamy floral and ‘eight fairies’ patterns in qipaos for 2-11 year olds, while star and bird deco stretch silk jacquards are envisioned both on Tang jackets and as lining for cashmere cardigans.

Set to be the highlight of the collection, a series of ‘mini-me’ styles represent adorable replicas of some favourite key items from the adult range – a sleeveless bird and floral jacquard dress in shiny bubble gum shades, a crisp cotton shirt in a sorbet coloured dragonfly print, mandarin collared polo shirts embroidered with the revived ‘SHT Motif’ and more.

Created with the same modern aesthetics and quality craftsmanship of the brand’s classics, these mini-me styles allow for matching parent-and-child outfits that will spark conversation wherever you go.

Announced simultaneously are two kids’ styles from the Xu Bing collection, a highly anticipated collaboration with renowned Chinese artist Xu Bing. For this project, Xu Bing created an exclusive artwork ‘Shanghai Tang – Created by Chinese’ in his legendary ‘Square Word Calligraphy,’ which has been adapted across a series of limited edition merchandise including ready-to-wear, bags and stationery.

Two unisex kids’ T-shirts, each in three colourways, are offered alongside matching adult-sized versions. The kids’ T-shirts showcase Xu Bing’s artwork in print or playful gradient embroidery.
