Toyota’s India business unaffected by US recall

Japanese automaker Toyota may have taken a bit of a beating after it had to recall millions of vehicles in the US, but in India this has had no impact and, in fact, the business has been seeing strong growth. "Our sales have doubled. It [the recall] is limited to the US. Each of our models are in short supply [in India]," says Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director (Marketing) of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the company’s Indian joint venture with the Kirloskar Group.

"In the last two months, we have grown by 100 percent," he adds, referring to the cumulative sales for January-February 2010 that stood at 11,982 units, a 109 percent increase over the same period last year.
