Located on the southern end of Sylvia Park mall in Auckland’s Mt Wellington, the 24/7-discount department store will take over from Countdown supermarket.

Covering 5,000 square metres, the never-closing store will officially open its doors on August 15, 2019

“For us, it is about offering better support to New Zealand families who are busy balancing work, family and leisure commitments; and more convenience for shift workers and people working non-traditional business hours,” Kmart New Zealand country manager Jason Picard told the New Zealand Herald.

“At Kmart, we want to make everyday living brighter for our customers, whether that means creating on-trend products at everyday low-prices everyone can enjoy, opening stores in new communities or extending operating hours to make shopping more convenient,” he said.

“We want our customer experience with the brand to be a really positive one, which is why we are proud to offer click and collect services across our entire New Zealand store
network; and why we are constantly expanding our online offer,” Picard added.

The discount department store retailer already boasts 530 stores across Australia and New Zealand and Australia, with more stores to open across New Zealand later this year

including Rotorua and Invercargill. Last year, it opened stores in Queenstown and Lower Hutt. Kmart did not reveal if the new openings would be 24/7 stores.

Wesfarmers-owned Kmart saw sales dip 3.8% in the first-half year, but remains a crucial earner for its Australian parent company. Kmart earnings decreased to AU$383
million in the half-year period from $398m, while its revenue was up just 0.8% Sylvia Park is one of New Zealand’s leading malls.
