New Giant in Miri eyes Bruneians

Retail major Giant Hypermarket is set to expand its operations soon by opening a new hypermarket by the third quarter of next year in Miri, in the Malaysian state of Sarawak on the island of Borneo, reports the Malaysian news agency Bernama.

"There is a lot of growth potential in Miri. We are targeting locals as well as those from Brunei," GCH Retail’s COO Tom Herriot told reporters on Tuesday. The country of Brunei is located on the north coast of Borneo.

GCH Retail (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, the owner of Giant, is said to have invested MYR12 million (USD3.7 million) toward establishing the hypermarket in Miri.
