Macau: Melco gives up on casino

James Packer’s Macau joint venture has quietly given up on its dream of owning a third casino in Macau.

Nasdaq-listed Melco Crown Entertainment had planned to build the USD675-million (AUD1.1-billion) Trinity casino on the Macau peninsula and have it ready to open this year.

The casino was to be built on the waterfront on the Macau peninsula that is regarded as the traditional centre of gambling in Macau.

Melco Crown’s other two casinos – the Altira and City of Dreams – are on Cotai island opposite the main city.
