Trotter joined the MF Brands-owned company in 2018 as creative director, where she oversaw Lacoste’s fashion shows and general collections. She made her Paris Fashion Week debut in February 2019. After an 18-month fashion week hiatus, her last show for Lacoste was October 2021.

“It’s time to say goodbye. To all those who have supported me on this brilliant journey: the team at Troyes; Lacoste Archive; Lacoste teams; my collaborators; friends and loyal fans of the house I send my heartfelt thanks,” said Trotter in an Instagram post via her personal account.

“I leave with the deepest gratitude to my creative team, for without you there would be no me. The studio became our creative home and your passion and inspiration allowed us to dream ‘big dreams’. I hope you will continue to flourish. Finally, I feel the most honoured to have served the legacy of René Lacoste, whose sporting values I will carry with me,” she added.

Lacoste will not replace Trotter and is, instead, rethinking its creative approach, stating that it would take the shape of “a collaborative studio model focused on a collective vision.”

“I would like to thank Louise Trotter for her creativity, her commitment and for her contribution to the brand’s heritage. Lacoste is now embarking on a new chapter, with a collective of creatives committed to working alongside Lacoste to share talent and connections,” explained Thierry Guibert, president of Lacoste. “Beyond the design of collections, our brand wants to go even further in its mission to connect cultures and communities”.

In December, Lacoste announced a new 15-year worldwide licensing agreement with Interparfums and the launch of a new perfume line in 2024, after wrapping up its existing licencing deal with Coty.
