The architectural masterpiece combines retail and office spaces, and is anticipated to reach full operational capacity by 2025. InCity Chongqing’s retail tenants include 48 brands new to southwestern China, according to the Chongqing International Communication Centre for Culture and Tourism.

The 100,000-square-metre retail podium embodies the concept of high-quality living and leisure at the heart of the city. With four storeys in height, it is designed as a vibrant hub for various retail experiences. Standing tall beside it is the main tower, reaching a height of 458 metres, making it the tallest in the city. The design of the structure draws inspiration from the sailboats that navigate the nearby Jialing River.

Galeries Lafayette, which has existing stores in Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen, marks its entry into southwestern China with this fourth branch in Chongqing.

The French luxury department store recently opened a store in Shenzhen, as the retailer eyes a total of ten stores in China by 2025 in partnership with Hopson Group, a major listed property firm established in south-eastern China.

Originating in Hirakata, Japan in 1982, Tsutaya Bookstore, another anchor tenant, made its entry into the Chinese market in 2020. The recently opened store in Chongqing marks their impressive tenth outlet in China.

Tsutaya Investment’s chairman Takuya Nomura said the InCity Chongqing bookstore “targets young individuals aged between 20 and 30,” in addition to office workers.
