Unilever acquires Paula’s Choice

Anglo-Dutch company Unilever announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire U.S. skincare brand Paula’s Choice.

The fast-moving consumer goods conglomerate will purchase the digital-forward, science-backed beauty brand from TA Associates, where it will join the company’s roster of Prestige brands.

The transaction is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2021. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We are thrilled that Paula’s Choice will join our Unilever Prestige family,” said Vasiliki Petrou, Unilever EVP and CEO Prestige.

“Paula’s Choice is a true pioneer in the digital space for beauty and has created a mission-based brand rooted in truth and transparency. We cannot wait to introduce the brand and its iconic products to an even bigger audience,” continued Petrou.

Founded by Paula Begoun in 1995, Paula’s Choice is known for its accessible and science-founded product that are also cruelty-free. Focusing on online retail, the direct-to-consumer brand offers its customers digital tools including an extensive “Ingredient Dictionary” that breaks down the research behind nearly 4,000 ingredients, and its “Expert Advice” hub, a curated online platform that offers skin care and ingredient knowledge.
