Tesco says no plans to sell Thai unit

Troubled British retailer Tesco has no plans to sell its Thailand joint venture or any other overseas operations, chairman John Allan says.

Speaking at a meeting on Wednesday where shareholders approved the UK supermarket group’s USD6.1 billion sale of its South Korean arm, Mr Allan said Tesco has not discussed any further material overseas sales.

Britain’s biggest retailer retains its Tesco-Lotus business in Thailand as well as ventures in Malaysia, central Europe and Ireland. The South Korean unit sold had been its largest overseas asset.
