Aeon stores in Japan open early to save power

Most Aeon Co. supermarkets in Japan on Friday started opening at 7 am, two hours earlier than usual, in response to calls from consumers who want to save power by shopping during cooler morning hours this summer.

The early hours are being implemented at around 1,200 Aeon outlets nationwide, including about 120 that already open at 7 am and 320 that operate around the clock, Japan’s largest retailer said.
