US retail major Target announced on 10 March it would begin sending a list of mobile coupons once a month to consumers who have opted to receive promotions. The coupons are redeemed by scanning the 22D barcode on the mobile device at check out.
Target has been promoting the mobile coupon programme through social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter and through the retailer’s email programme since the beginning of March.
Although registration of the service has only been available for several days, consumers are responding favourably.
