India spending more on advertising

The total advertising expenditure for India will grow from INR21,602 crore (INR216 billion, USD4.86 billion) in 2009 to INR23, 632 crore (INR236 billion, USD5.32 billion) in 2010, a study by media agency ZenithOptimedia has reported.

Forecasting 9 percent growth in ad revenues this year for India, the agency also upgraded its forecast for global advertising industry growth from 0.9 percent to 2.2 percent for 2010.

Newspaper advertising, which grew 5 percent in 2009, is likely to see 7-8 percent annual growth this year. The study predicted 11-12 percent growth for television advertising in India, riding on the digital wave and advertising opportunities it brought with it.
