Moving goods by container trains might get more expensive in 2010. The Indian Railways has decided to increase haulage charges for container-train operators by three to eight percent with effect from 1 January.
Haulage charge is the amount paid by container-train operators to the Indian Railways for using the railway network and its infrastructure. When contacted, several container-train operators said they were evaluating the situation and may decide to pass on part or all of the additional cost to end customers.
