China’s Shandong Ruyi takes 41pc stake in Japan’s Renown

Chinese textile company Shandong Ruyi Group has reached a deal for a large stake in Japanese apparel maker Renown Inc., marking the latest instance of a Chinese firm taking control of a Japanese company.

Powered by economic growth at home, Chinese firms have taken a keen interest in Japanese companies to either take advantage of their know-how or to acquire brands that could appeal to middle- and upper-class Chinese.
