Indian government to expand coverage of Consumer Protection Act

The Indian government is looking to soon amend the Consumer Protection Act 1986, to expand its coverage and to increase its effectiveness, said Professor KV Thomas, Minister of State for Agriculture, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, at a two-day conference to mark the World Consumer Rights Day.

According to an official statement, the amendment would look to "eliminate the backlog of cases in various consumer courts".
