Indian gov. to pass onus of checks on tech. imports onto Indian entities

The Indian government is looking to provide a long-term solution to the dispute regarding the presence of Chinese companies in India, especially in the telecom sector. It is proposing a system whereby the onus of the first level security check on technology imports would be on the Indian entities concerned rather than the government.

The plans to make equipment importers or Indian subsidiaries of foreign companies responsible for providing the security check will make it more practical for policing agencies to monitor imports, given the large and expanding scale of business relationships between the two countries.

This is also expected to free the government of its perceived bias against Chinese imports and companies.
