The marine fisheries sector in India has adapted quickly to the new regime of tracing fish to its origin, time of capture, landing harbour and even the boat that caught the particular fish. India was forced to implement a new system to track all fish exported to the European Union (EU) since January 2010 because of its requirement on catch certificates for all fish materials imported into the EU. EU is one of the biggest importers of Indian seafood.
