Carrefour store in China’s Zhengzhou closed after labeling expose

A Carrefour store was closed down in Zhengzhou, the capital city of China’s Henan Province on Sunday morning amid accusations of changing expiration data and passing off regular chicken as more expensive free-range.

The French retailer received a temporary shutdown order from the local industry and commerce bureau after a China Central Television program highlighted its misbehaviour on China’s Consumer Rights Day last Thursday.

The market watchdog said it has launched a probe into the store’s products and account books, and will decide on further punishment accordingly.
