Two Indian drug companies feature in US top ten

In a first, two Indian drug firms, Lupin Ltd and Dr Reddy’s Ltd, have made it to the list of top 10 generic drug companies in the fiercely competitive US market, placed eighth and tenth, respectively, in 2009.

Lupin and DRL have also emerged as the fastest growing among the top 10 generic players in the US market, with Lupin showing growth of 50 percent and DRL of 40 percent when the three big players in the top-10 club have experienced negative growth. Indian drug companies have been expanding in the US market through the ordinary abbreviated new drug application route, and in some cases, through an out-of-court settlement with patent holders to fend off a Para IV certification challenge.
