Shanghai Tang, helmed by Creative Director Victoria Tang-Owen, supported the 5th annual amfAR Gala Hong Kong 2019 charity event. This marked the first of a series of celebratory events for the brand’s 25th anniversary to follow.

With philanthropy at the core of the brand’s values, Shanghai Tang has a longstanding
commitment to supporting charity. This year, Shanghai Tang supported amfAR Gala Hong Kong 2019 as its Grand Benefactor and Victoria attended as the Co-Chair of the charity dinner.
Running for the fifth year, the gala is hosted by amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, and took place on 25th March 2019 at Rosewood Hong Kong.
German Singer Tom Kaulitz (Supermodel Heidi Klum’s Fiancé), American actor & Golden Globe Award winner Kyle MacLachlan and his wife the renowned American TV Producer Desiree Gruber, and famous Chinese fashion influencer Leaf Greener were all dressed in Shanghai Tang outfits demonstrating the brand’s extraordinary style at in this meaningful charity dinner.
2019 also marks the 25th anniversary of Shanghai Tang. A quarter of a century ago, the
brand was born from a revolutionary idea and a love for authentic Chinese heritage, having since flourished into an internationally renowned icon adored for its savoir-faire and creativity. The 25th anniversary is not only a milestone, but a paramount moment in history and the start of a new chapter in the brand story. Shanghai Tang chooses to commence the celebrations for this momentous occasion by supporting amfAR and giving back to society.
As the newly appointed Creative Director, Victoria Tang-Owen takes the creative helm at Shanghai Tang, bringing a fresh vision on board while staying true to the Chinese luxury lifestyle brand’s much-revered heritage. The daughter of the brand’s visionary founder Sir David Tang, Victoria is set to reinterpret Shanghai Tang’s unique brand aesthetics with her personal expertise in fashion and lifestyle, as well as leveraging the brand’s modern and ground-breaking approach to Chinese tradition.
She is supported by the brand’s management team, led by CEO Maurizio De Gasperis,
former Managing Director of the brand, and with Elisabetta Bazzini as the new General
Manager of Global Retail, who came with extensive experience in Asia working with a
number of luxury fashion and lifestyle companies including Gucci and Versace.
Shanghai Tang was acquired by Chinese entrepreneur Chen Danxia and Lunar Capital, the consumer-focused investment fund last December. amfAR is dedicated to ending the global HIV/AIDS pandemic through innovative research.

The annual charity event amfAR Gala Hong Kong, starting from its inaugural gala in 2015, has raised more than US$14 million in support of amfAR’s lifesaving research programmes that are paving the way to a cure for HIV. Their determination and vision to eradicate the virus is shared by Shanghai Tang, with the hopes of supporting and improving treatment for the vulnerable people living with HIV/AIDS.
