Workers at Australia’s Woolworths win rise

About 100,000 Woolworths workers will get pay rises of around 3.5 percent a year and better rest breaks and other entitlements under Australia’s biggest private sector pay deal.

The retail giant and the shop assistants union is seeking approval of the two-year agreement, which also gives 20-year-old workers adult pay.

According to the Australian Treasury, annual wages growth is forecast to recover over the next 12 months, outstripping the inflation rate as the labour market strengthens and workers improve their bargaining position.
