Poor job ads signal hiring weakness in Australia

Australia’s surprisingly strong unemployment figures for April may turn out to be a blip, with the latest job advertisement survey pointing to weakening demand for labour.

A key labour market report out this week, meanwhile, is expected to show the economy failed to add any new jobs last month.

The monthly ANZ job ads survey out on Monday showed that hiring intentions fell again in May, particularly in the mining boom state of Western Australia.
