Myer’s chief merchandise and marketing officer Daniel Bracken has little time to ponder whether he’ll land the top job when long-serving chief executive Bernie Brookes retires.
Barely four years after arriving in Australia after a 17-year career with luxury British fashion house Burberry, Mr Bracken has been handed the task of overhauling the merchandise range and marketing strategy for Australia’s largest department store chain at arguably the most challenging time in its history.
Lured last June from privately-held fashion house The Apparel Group, where he oversaw the acquisition of Willow and JAG, and relaunched the Sportscraft brand in the space of three years. Mr Bracken is considered the leading candidate from a strong internal field to take the helm when Mr Brookes steps down.
