Indonesian workforce could grow by 2.7m people

Up to 2.7 million workers are expected to join Indonesia’s workforce next year as the country targets economic growth of 6.8 percent to 7.2 percent, a minister said on Thursday.

National Development Planning Minister Armida Alisjahbana said in Jakarta on Thursday that the government expected the workforce to expand by between 2.5 million and 2.7 million people in 2013.

"The unemployment figure, therefore, will decline to between 7.2 million and 7.4 million people," Armida said during a working meeting with the House of Representatives’ Commission XI overseeing finance, banking and development planning.
