The Indian unit of General Motors Co said on Tuesday it will hire up to 1,000 people in India by the end of 2010 as it increases output to meet rising local demand for its cars and to strengthen its automotive engineering design capabilities. The company will hire 150 to 200 engineers at its powertrain centre in the technology hub of Bangalore, P Balendran, Vice President at General Motors India Pvt Ltd, told a news conference to announce the launch of an automatic transmission version of the Chevrolet Cruze sedan.
