Small businesses are increasingly making use of freelancers online to quickly and cost effectively get work done.
Freelancer.com, the world’s number one micro-outsourcing marketplace, announced on 8 February that earnings generated through the site by freelancers had exceeded USD50 million.
The USD50 million in earnings generated by Freelancer.com’s users spanned over 550,000 projects posted on the site since inception, averaging over USD90 per job. As the average job is under USD200 in the marketplace, outsourcing online has become a cost effective option for small-business owners.
"We are extremely proud of reaching this great milestone," said Matt Barrie, CEO of Freelancer.com. "As most of our freelancers come from developing countries, USD50 million in earnings through our site is roughly equivalent to half a billion dollars of Western world labour. This shows what an incredibly valuable resource Freelancer.com is to small business owners in the Western world and source of income for people in the developing world."
