The number of employees in their late 60s still account for less than 40 percent of Japan’s total workforce, despite many seniors’ strong desire to continue working, a government white paper showed on Friday.
The employment rate for those aged between 65 and 69 stood at 36.3 percent in 2011 and at 22.8 percent for those between 70 and 74, according to a 2012 white paper on Japan’s aging society.
