A Sydney Ugg boot retailer has been fined more than AUD10,000 (USD 7,300) for paying a young overseas worker just AUD8 an hour instead of the standard AUD22 hourly rate to which she was legally entitled.
Ever Australia Pty Ltd – which makes and sells ugg boots under the "Ever UGG" brand – has been fined AUD8500 by the Federal Circuit Court.
Legal action by the Fair Work Ombudsman has also resulted in the company’s operator and majority owner Yue Hua Liu of Strathfield being fined an additional AUD2550.
