Thai CP adopts more flexible plan for new China stores

Rapid growth in the use of digital technology and growing purchasing power in China have prompted Charoen Pokphand Group to restructure its retail business strategy for the country that creates discrete categories of small, medium-sized and large malls.

The group plans to downsize its malls, but will still equip them with digital technology as well as seeking modern marketing and management techniques to cope with the rapid changes in Chinese consumers’ lifestyles.

Under the group’s new investment structure, the firm will focus not only on expansion of its retail arm through Lotus Supercentres, but also on its shopping-mall business, Superbrand Malls. The retail arms are being downsized to cope with the rising cost of land concessions from the Chinese Government.
