Tokyu Land Corp. opened a large commercial facility featuring an airport-style duty-free shop in Tokyo’s upscale Ginza shopping district on Thursday.
The real estate developer hopes that Tokyu Plaza Ginza will draw 10 million visitors a year, many of them in their 30s and 40s. It has a total of 125 tenants, including high-end clothing stores and restaurants.
The duty-free shop, like one at an airport, sells items without consumption tax and also liquor and tobacco taxes. It aims to attract foreign tourists.
