Hainan’s duty-free sales up

The Chinese island province of Hainan has seen a surge in offshore duty-free shopping, with total sales revenue of CNY6.3 billion (USD1.03 billion) between April 2011 and this month.

In that period, Hainan welcomed over 2.51 million tourist arrivals, and 8.96 million items were sold in its two offshore duty-free stores in the provincial capital of Haikou and Sanya, data released last week by Haikou Customs showed.
