Bain buys stake in Japanese TV shopping firm

Buyout shop Bain Capital LLC said on Friday that it will acquire a 50 percent stake in a leading Japanese TV shopping company, amid a deals boom on the island nation from which private equity has largely been absent.

Bain will pay Japanese trading house Sumitomo Corp. in excess of USD1 billion for its share of Jupiter Shop Channel Co., according to people familiar with terms of the deal, which were not disclosed.
