According to data released by Malaysia’s Department of Statistics (DoSM) on 9th February, the volume index of Wholesale & Retail Trade registered a growth of 1.4 percent in the fourth quarter in 2021 as compared to the same quarter of 2020. The retail trade recorded a positive growth of two percent.

DoSM revealed retail trade’s volume 2 percent gain was attributed to retail sales not in stores, stalls or markets with 23.9 percent.
This was followed by retail sales of food, beverages & tobacco (6.5 percent), retail sale in non-specialised stores (6.2 percent), retail sale via stalls & market (5.9 percent), retail sale of automotive fuels (4.6 percent), retail sale of cultural & recreation goods (0.3 percent), and retail sale of information & communication equipment (0.1 percent).

Meanwhile, DoSM reported the volume index of retail trade climbed 10.8 percent compared to the previous quarter.
