Yoga has had an influence on sportswear and has garnered lots of attention for its diversity in athleisure, a trend combining the function and comfort of athletic clothing and the fashion of streetwear.

One yoga wear line that continues to blur the lines between fashion and athletics is lululemon, which was founded in Vancouver, Canada in 1998, and came into the Korean market in 2015. Since then, the brand has expanded its franchise to include five stores across Seoul.
On 22 October, the Cheongdam flagship store celebrated the launch of their exclusive capsule collaboration with Roksanda Ilincic, a Serbian designer who is one of the most prominent fashion designers in London. She is known for her feminine, and contemporary designs, vibrant color palettes, and her work with public figures such as Kate Middleton, Michelle Obama, and Cate Blanchett.
At the launch event, contemporary dancer Cha Jin-yeob promoted the line and hosted a group class in Sweat Alley, the in-store yoga studio and community fitness class venue. She is currently at the forefront of contemporary dance culture in Korea, having choreographed the ceremonies for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and participated as a judge on the Korean version of “Dancing with the Stars.”
“You should be able to move your body freely, and without restraint […] the new collection provides the comfort to do so,” Cha said at the event.
Another Korean celebrity advocate of the collaboration is Girls’ Generation member Sooyoung, who did a pictorial for the new collection with British magazine, Dazed & Confused. The full pictorial is to be released in the upcoming November edition of the publication and will show her wearing various items in the line.
The collection includes 17 different pieces that showcase Roksanda’s modern fashion trends while retaining the original essence of lululemon. For example, the Inner Expanse Infinity Coat comes with multiple layers, letting you wear it as a coat, puffer, vest, or a light trench coat.

Other items include jackets, leggings, and duffel bags, all designed as fashion items that can also be worn as sportswear. Lululemon and Roksanda will be continuing their partnership into January 2020, when they will be dropping their second collection together.
