Ambush creative director and jewellery designer, Yoon Ahn, has joined the Seoul-based eyewear brand for the launch of the Zip Tie sunglass model collection.

Available in three colourways – clear, orange and blue — the Zip Tie eyewear is a transparent full-acetate frame, “of a sports goggle silhouette, featuring metal cable tie details at the centre-front and on sides of the frame,” according to a press release issued by Gentle Monster.

When creating the Zip Tie glasses, Korean-American born Ahn was inspired by David Bowie’s movie ‘The Man Who Fell to Earth’. The collection is designed “to compliment the mood of always being on the move, as though on a journey, but in 2019,” said Ahn, in the press release.

“They are for ‘everyone who wants to see the world through new lenses’,” Ahn continued.

The luxury eyewear market is predicted to register a CAGR of over6% by 2023, according to a recent report.

The Gentle Monster collaboration is the latest in a string of tie-ups for Ambush. In late 2018, the jewellery brand teamed up with Nike for a design update on the Nike Air Max 180, where Ahn mixed in style elements from the rare Nike Air Zoom Flight.
