HK’s SmarTone rings up USD129m profit, boosts spending for 4G development

Hong Kong’s SmarTone Telecommunications broke through the HKD1 billion (USD128.922 million) mark in net profit in its fiscal year to June.

It said on Tuesday that it would increase capital spending to support the anticipated growth in high-speed 4G mobile network users.

Chief Executive Douglas Li said the carrier expected "a major shift in traffic to our 4G network" as more advanced 4G smartphones became widely available in the market from the next quarter.
