Eveready Industries India Ltd, the second largest manufacturer of carbon zinc batteries globally, on 12 March announced a price hike in its complete range of dry cell batteries. At the maximum retail price level, the increase is 5 to 10 percent and will come into effect immediately.
According to executive vice chairman and managing director of Eveready India Deepak Khaitan, a continuous rise in the price of zinc – a key raw material in dry cell batteries – in the past four to five months and a 2 percentage points increase in excise duty on carbon zinc batteries – proposed in the this year’s budget – prompted the price rise.
