Chinese online book retailer partners with online supermarket

E-Commerce China Dangdang Inc., China’s biggest online book retailer, said on Thursday that it has formed a strategic partnership with, a Chinese online supermarket that is majority-owned by Walmart, to launch a flagship channel on each other’s platform.

Under the partnership, Dangdang opens a bookstore on, making its books and media merchandise available to’s customers, while opens a supermarket on the Dangdang marketplace. Both of these new stores offer the same products, pricing, logistics and customer service available on each company’s own official website.

"By partnering with, our customers now have access to a broader selection of grocery and food items from one of China’s leading online grocery stores. At the same time, can now provide its customers an extensive selection of books and media products from Dangdang, a name they know and trust. Utilising strong category advantage is a meaningful way for both companies to enrich selection to their respective customers," said Peggy Yu Yu, Dangdang’s Executive Chairwoman.
